Vice-Chairman and President Jean-Francois Cirelli said that his company is looking for an expansion of its presence in Russia both in hydrocarbons production and in power generation, RIA Novosti reports.

From before, the company has export contracts from the Norwegian Snohvit gas field in the Norwegian part of the Barents Sea. The company is also partner in the project, which is operated by StatoilHydro.

“In the future, we would like to make large investments in Russia,” Mr. Cirelli said. According to the company’s website, investments worth 1.5 to 2 billion EUR are to be made yearly over the next 10 years

According to RIA Novosti, the company CEO also said the company had reached an agreement with Gazprom to set up a joint venture that would implement energy-saving and energy-efficiency projects. Cirelli did not offer a timeline, but said “we will teach Gazprom how to save gas.”

GDF Suez, which has terminals in North and South America, Asia and Europe, earlier said it was capable of providing Gazprom more security and flexibility in LNG sales.

The company employs 196,500 people worldwide and in 2007 had revenues of 74,3 billion EUR. The company is the 2nd leading operator of LNG terminals in Europe and owns 15 LNG tankers. Another five tankers are under construction.
