In August, Norway’s Ministry of Petroleum and Energy approved LUKoil’s pre-qualification for operations on the Norwegian shelf. LUKoil is Russia’s largest private oil company and the first to be pre-qualified for operations in Norway.

Vagit Alekperov says LUKoil will bid for a license to develop petroleum deposits together with Statoil, reports RIA Novosti. Alekperov also says LUKoil and Statoil may also cooperate in developing oil fields in border regions of Russia.

Norway and Russia recently agreed on the maritime borders in the Barents Sea, an agreement that also stipulates for cooperation on petroleum projects in the earlier non-drill area.
