Russia and Norway solve 40-year-long maritime border dispute

Geir Seljeseth Russia Today

After almost 40 years of negotiations Norway’s Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and Russian President Dmitri Medvedev yesterday announced that they have reached a breakthrough and a deal on how to share the disputed areas in the Barents Sea will be signed.
Journalist in the Norwegian newspaper Nordlys Geir Seljeseth tells Russia Today how important this agreement is: - For 30 years we haven’t been able to develop oil and gas in this area because of the moratorium. Now we’ll have the possibility to do this. This also gives us an opportunity to build infrastructure, to introduce a visa-free regime between the regions, to boost cooperation between the countries, and to give the north more jobs it so badly needs.
