Opposition parties want higher Gazprom taxes

The Communists, the liberals and the social democrats say it is time to end the tax regime where state-own Gazprom pays half of what Russia’s oil producers do.

Vladimir Milov, leader of the liberal Democratic Choice Movement says to Bloomberg the three parties all agree on raising Gazprom’s taxes. The statement comes at the same time as Statoil and Total, partners to Gazprom in the Shtokman Development AG, both have urged the Russian government to grant tax relief and cuts in export duties for the Shtokman natural gas project in the Barents Sea.

Sergei Lavhenco, Duma member and member of the energy committee, says to Bloomberg that Gazprom’s tax burden should double to bring it in line with what other oil companies are paying.
