Gazprom has finished building of a 4 km long bridge on the Yamal peninsula. The bridge runs through one of the most difficult areas on the route for the new railway to the Bovanekovo gas field.

Location

The bridge – the world’s longest above the Arctic Cirlce – was opened on Thursday by Head of Gazprom Aleksey Miller. The bridge runs across the Yuribey River floodplain as part of a major new railway to delivers workers and equipment to Yamal. The bridge was built in less than a year, Komsomolskaya Pravda reports.

The river Yuribey runs over permafrost, crosses Yamal peninsula and runs into the Kara Sea. In the wintertime the river is only a narrow band of ice, but in the summer melting snow makes the river several kilometers wide in just a couple of days, web siteRuschudo.ru  writes.
