In August, BarentsObserver wrote about the small Norwegian sailboat that was detained in Russia’s East Siberian Sea and taken to the nearest port on Chukotka.
The crew started in the northern Norwegian town of Vardø and intended to sail around the North Pole. In late August the boat was detained by the Russian border guard department of the coastguard division of FSB. The crew had valid Russian visas, but had no permission to for the trip from the relevant Russian authorities, the FSB press service told Itar-Tass.
