In a meeting between Marina Kovtun and Rosneft President Igor Sechin, the Murmansk governor requested long-term and low-priced heavy fuel oil (mazut) as well as an enhanced engagement in the development of the Murmansk Transport Hub.

The state-owned oil company, now the world’s biggest, is a key stakeholder in the Murmansk Transport Hub, the company responsible for developing key infrastructure in the strategically important Kola Bay.

“Until recently, Rosneft did not display any significant level of activity in the company”, Governor Kovtun says. “Now, however, Igor Ivanovich [Sechin] confirms that he is increasingly interested in the project and that his company will engagement not only as shareholder but also register as resident in the Economic Port Zone”, she adds, a press release reads.

Kovtun also wants the oil company to assist the region in lowering its dependence of mazut. Murmansk Oblast is today one of the least gasificated regions in Russia and has long intended to use natural gas from the Barents Sea in its shift towards more sustainable heating.
