Member of State Duma from Murmansk region Valeriy Yazev belives Norwegian gas will help the region to get rid of imported fuel oil dependence.

“There are three ways to solve the Murmansk region energy dependence problem: gasification, electric boiler-houses, and active use of local energy resources – the south of the region is rich in peat”, he says in a statement on his own official portal.

The largest world gas exporter has already had negotiations with the Norwegian side about gas import to its Barents region. “Within three-four week they will give us an answer on the price, terms, dates, and volume of deliveries”, Yazev says.

He is sure Murmansk region could get Norwegian gas much cheaper than Russian fuel oil, but doesn’t mention the cost of rebuilding of current fuel oil-boilers on Kola Peninsula.

Besides, the Shtokman promised region has been experiencing lack of gas for cooking in almost all its municipalities.

Earlier Vladimir Putin set a mission to provide energy safety of Murmansk region after numerous street protests against sharp increase in utilities rate.
