The Norwegian County of Rogaland has signed a new cooperation agreement with Nenets Autonomous Okrug in northern Russia.

Location

The agreement was signed last week when a delegation from Rogaland visited Naryan-Mar in connection with the celebration of Nenets 80th okrug’s anniversary. The agreement was signed by Igor Fyodorov, Head of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug Administration and Tom Tvedt, Governor of the Rogaland County.

Both sides pin big hopes on this new agreement. The previous agreement was signed in 2006 and did not create practical results.

The previous experience was negative because there were no contacts and openness. We have to more contact on all levels: students, deputies, leaders of enterprises. And within these meetings the agreement will be fulfilled by specifics, said Igor Fyodorov, head of the Nenets AO Administration.

The agreement stipulates cooperation in different spheres over the coming two years. The Nenets side is especially interested in cooperation in education, environmental protection, in addition to oil and gas production. Rogaland County is the main oil- and gas region in Norway.

The Nenets okrug is also interesting in adaptation of Norwegian practices if fish farming, wind-power engineering and organization the education program for okrug’s inhabitants in the base of the Stavanger University, said Igor Fyodorov.
