Missile shield could go Arctic

Russia’s NATO envoy, Dmitry Rogozin, says a worst-case U.S. missile shield scenario is vessels with interceptor missiles deployed in the Arctic.

Location

The rapid climate changes with reduction of sea ice in the Arctic could lead to longer navigation periods. – Under very bad circumstances the U.S. strategic missile defence would arrive there onboard U.S. cruisers, Rogozin told the Vesti 24 channel, reports RIA Novosti.

The interview is made after U.S. President Barack Obama earlier in September announced that USA would not deploy its missile shield elements in Central Europe.

Russia’s NATO envoy said in the same interview that he was very satisfied with NATO Secretary Anders Fogh Rasmussen’s efforts to improve relations with Russia.
