Tax breaks for the Kara Sea

The two companies have requested the Russian government to introduce tax breaks for the Kara Sea, considered one of the most difficult and complex – and most promising – areas on the Russian Arctic shelf.

Aleksandr Nekipelov, Head of Rosneft’s Board of Director, says that the Americal partner insists that tax breaks are introduced for the region, Oilru.com reports.

-All depends on the government, Nekipelov says. –A request has been sent, ExxonMobil insisted on this, he adds.

All the companies engaged in hydrocarbon projects in the Russian Arctic maintain that the expensive and technologically challenging projects must be given beneficial investment conditions by the government.

As reported by BarentsObserver, the tax issue has been high on the agenda in both the Shtokman project, in Yamal, as well as in far eastern waters.

Statoil leader Helge Lund himself recently said that the Shtokman project in the Barents Sea could face further delays unless better tax conditions are introduced.
