The Russian President Dmitri Medvedev arrives in the capital of Nenets Autonomous Okrug on Tuesday. Nenets is the northernmost corner of the Barents Region and centre for both the oil-industry and the indigenous peoples on the tundra in the high north.

This will be President Medvedev’s first visit to Naryan-Mar, reports RIA Novosti.

On Monday, Dmitry Medvedev held a meeting with Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoys to the Federal Districts on the housing and utilities sector’s preparations for the winter season.

According to the portal of Kremlin, Medvedev instructed the presidential envoys to keep close watch on the situation in regions where the housing and utilities sector looks less well prepared for the upcoming winter.

Also discussed at the meeting were breaches of the laws regulating management of apartment buildings, and energy saving and efficiency in the housing and utilities sector.

Energy savings is an important topic within the Barents cooperation and several energy efficiency projects have been initiated in Naryan-Mar as part of joint Russian-Norwegian projects. The Norwegian Barents Secretariat has co-financed the establishment of the Nenets Energy Efficiency.

In September, more than 60 Russian and Norwegian specialists gathered in Naryan-Mar to exchange knowledge and discuss future projects.
