It is the Norwegian Climate and Pollution Agency which has instructed Sydvaranger Mine to stop using the chemical Maganfloc 1707. The chemical has never been included in any of the company’s emission permits from KLIF and the use was discovered by KLIF during an inspection at the factory earlier this year. The chemical which Sydvaranger Gruve was permitted to use, Magnafloc 155, did not have the desired capabilities needed in the production process and therefore the Mine started using 1707 instead.
Sydvaranger has claimed that it is not possible to manage a profitable production without the use of Magnafloc. KLIF writes in a press release concerning their decision that Sydvaranger will have to stop the use of the chemical and must send a written documentation within two weeks that they have followed the instructions.
Sydvaranger Gruve writes in a press release that they will stop the use with immediate effect and have arranged a meeting with KLIF for a further explanation regarding the decision.
