This weekend, two Northern Norwegian Governors travel eastbound.
The Governor of Norway’s northernmost county Finnmark, Runar Sjåstad participates at Fishery Exhibition that opens in Murmansk on Friday. He will give a speech at the seminar entitled “Fishery and aquaculture: Challenges and prospective.”
In addition to county Governor Sjåstad, several other members of the Finnmark regional parliament participate in the delegation to Murmansk.
On Sunday, a delegation from Nordland goes to Moscow. The delegation is headed by county Governor – and former Minister of Trade and Industry – Odd Eriksen. The Nordland delegation will focus on regional political contacts with Russia and the opportunities for northern Norwegian business on the Russian marked.
Like in Murmansk, seafood will also be in focus for the delegation traveling to Moscow. Nordland and Finnmark are among the most important areas in Norway for fisheries and aquaculture. Russian is one of the most important markets for Norwegian seafood, like salmon and cod.
County Governor Odd Eriksen will also have a meeting with representatives of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs responsible for the Barents Cooperation and relations with Norway. Within the Governor’s delegation is also all leaders of the different political parties in the Nordland county, in addition to representatives of the Norwegian Barents Secretariat.
By the end of April, county Governor of Troms Pia Svensgaard travels to Moscow together with another delegation from the Norwegian Barents Secretariat. Svensgaard is the chair of the Barents Regional Council for the period 2009 to 2011.
