More people to Kirkenes

The Kirkenes Aiport in the first six months of the year had an eight percent increase in passenger numbers.

That is among the best results in all of Norway.

Meanwhile, the overall number of passenger numbers in Norwegian airports shrunk by seven percent year-on-year in the period, newspaper Sør-Varanger Avis reports.

One of the reasons behind the growth is several industrial projects in the Kirkenes area, among them the reopening of the Syd-Varanger mine by the company Northern Iron. The influx of people to Kirkenes is expected to continue to increase as the projects unfold.
