Russian GDP down 10,1 percent

The Russian economy in the first six months of the year shrunk 10,1 percent year-on-year, the Russian Minister of Economic Development confirms. Meanwhile, industrial production shows sign of revival.

In a meeting with OECD representatives this week, Minister Elvira Nabiullina said that Russian GDP dropped 10,1 percent year-on-year in the first six months of 2009. That is slightly better that forecast figures, RIA Novosti reports.

In the same meeting, the minister confirmed that the Russian industrial production now is on the rise. In June production grew 0,8 percent from May. The industrial output is however still far below 2008 levels. According to the Russian Statistical Service, June industrial production was down 12,1 percent year-on-year.

For the first six months of 2009, production figures were down 14,8 percent, Vedomosti reports.
