Location

According to the company’s research agreement with the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Tromsø, advanced scientific equipment, including a XRF scanner is to be acquired.

The agreement is a confirmation of our ambitions for Northern Norway, Det norske’s CEO Erik Haugane, says in a press release.

- In this way we hope to strengthen research and development within the petroleum sector in Northern Norway. This is important to optimize spin-off effects when petroleum activities gradually move northwards. From our Harstad office, we put special emphasis on activities in the Barents Sea.

The scanner is the second of its kind in Norway, and will be of great importance for marine geological research at the department of Geology. The results will contribute to improved understanding of how the Continental Shelf areas, outside Northern Norway, the Barents Sea and around Svalbard, are formed, and how the depositional environment has changed during different climatic periods, Det norske informs on its website.

Det norske is the second-largest operating company on the Norwegian Shelf with regard to number of license interests and operatorships. The company was established under the name Pertra AS in 2001 as a wholly-owned E&P company to pursue small-field opportunities on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
