The Norwegian energy company StatoilHydro’s new logo is to be incorporated in all of the company’s designs as off November 1st 2009. The new logo can resemble a star, a turbine, a drill bit or a windmill. Many possible associations may arise from the new logo which will adorn the group’s installations and buildings after the name change from StatoilHydro to Statoil. The total cost of the profile change is approximately 23 million EUR.
However, most Norwegian design experts are highly critical to the new logo. It is too feminine, it lacks a distinctive character or it looks like an advertisement for a spa center. The bad characteristics are numerous. Since StatoilHydro is Norway’s by far largest corporation, it is no surprise that a new logo cause national attention and debate.
