A Danish-American group of researchers has discovered that the melting of the Greenland ice sheet contributes more to rising sea level than previously assumed. 0,7 millimeters ocean level rise per year due to the melting of the Greenland ice cover is three times more than what the researchers had estimated.
The melting was at its peak in 2007. Approximately eight percent of the world’s fresh water resources are tied to the Greenland ice sheet.
