The heliopad will be the biggest in Russia and the CIS area, Rosbalt.ru reports with reference to RIA Novosti. It will be built in connection with the development of the Bovanenkovo field, a huge 4,9 trillion cubic meter field located at the gas-rich Yamal Peninsula. According to Gazprom representative Viktor Rakhmanko, the heliopad will be unique internationally. Not only will it be located in the Arctic on permafrost ground. It will also be able to handle a major amount of goods. The capacity of the base will be several tens of helicopters, which are to transport manpower and goods to and from the Bovanenkovo field. The Bovanenkovo field is to be in production from year 2011. It will also be connected with a railway and a gas pipeline.
