On Friday the Italian energy company presented the conclusions of a study on the Goliat development plans. The oil field is located off the coast of Finnmark in northern Norway, close to the Snøhvit gas-field. The ENI conclusions state that landing of the oil is not an alternative. The oil will be processed, stored, loaded on a floating construction out at open sea. – This is the only solution which is profitable for us. In addition it is also the best environmental solution, says head of information in ENI Norway Jone Stangeland to news agency NTB. The oil company has been under pressure from politicians and local authorities to land the oil in order to create more jobs. However, landing and processing of the oil in the town of Hammerfest will add up to 1,5 billion EUR on the costs. ENI says that even though the company is not going to land the oil, it will still create up to 200 jobs in the region since all base activities will be located in Hammerfest.
