The Russian Ministry of Regional Development confirms that federal funding of the indigenous peoples of the North will be increased from the current 200 million RUB to 600 million RUB per year. The money will be spent on social and economic development measures, Bclass.ru reports with reference to Regnum. In addition, the regional administrations will get a bigger level of control over the money. While the allocations until now has been channeled directly from Moscow to the various indigenous peoples’ initiatives, the funding will from now on be administrated by the regional governments.
