In the interview, publised on the president’s website, with TV channels “Rossiya”, NTV and RTR, Mr Medvedev, highlighted the Russian border areas as one of five priorities in his foreign policy.

-In these regions, countries, with which we traditionally nurse friendly relations, special historical relations, are located. We will very attentively work with these regions, and develop such friendly relations with these countries, with our close neighbours, the president said.

He added that also the positions of the neighbouring countries will be of major importance.

-What concerns that future – it does not only depend on us. It depends also on our friends, on our partners in international cooperation. They do have a choice, he underlined.

Among his other foreign policy priorities, President Medvedev highlighted the superiority of international law, the importance of socalled multi-polarity in global politics, the country’s non-confrontation and non-isolationist line and the protection and well-being of Russian citizens all over the world.

The interview illustrated the priorities as laid down in the new Russian Foreign Policy Concept.
