New Norwegian coast guard vessel put on water

"KV Barentshav" (mil.no)

The first coast guard vessel of the new Barents Sea-class was this week put on the water at a shipyard in Romania. The ship is one of three planned vessels of the class.

Location

The new vessel will be named “KV Barentshav” and have the High North as is main area of operation. The ship is the only in the Norwegian fleet which run on gas and not diesel.

The “KV Barentshav” will be in operation by the end of 2008. Two more vessels in the class will be handed over to the Norwegian Coast Guard in April and August respectively.

All the ships are built to handle also tugging and oil preparedness tasks. They are 93,2 meter long and have a top speed of 20 knots, Mil.no reports.
