More red tape on Russian border

Russian customs officials in the Russian border town of Svetogorsk are calling for additional insurance and security escorts for vehicles carrying cargo valued at more than 50,000 USD. The new rule spurs cross-border traffic problems on the Russian-Finnish border.


Police say the long line of parked trucks on Main Road 6 pose an extremely dangerous situation in Imatra and Lappeenranta, Yle News reports. The southern Finnish border passes with Russia are extensively used a transport route between the northern EU and Russia.
