Shtokman LNG for Canada

Russian energy major Gazprom has signed an agreement with a Canadian company over deliveries of LNG from the Shtokman field in the Barents Sea.

Location

The agreement was signed this week by Gazprom’s subsidiary Gazprom Marketing & Trading USA and the Canadian gas terminal Rabaska.

-The delivery of LNG from the Shtokman field to new North American markets is very important for us, and the Canadian provinces of Quebec and Ontario appear highly attractive, Deputy Chairman of Gazprom’s Management Committee, Mr. Aleksandr Medvedev says to newspaper Vedomosti.

-This is the first huge investments in North America, which will become a vital part of our global strategy on exports of LNG, he adds.

Gazprom plans to start production at 3,8 trillion cubic meters Shtokman field in 2013. The gas will be exported partly by pipeline to European buyers and partly as LNG. The production of liquefied natural gas will start in 2014. The town of Teriberka northeast of Murmansk will function as hub for the Shtokman operations.
