The test launch of the missile took place on the US. west coast last week. According to the Norwegian Defence the missile did not lift off after the launch signal was given. The failed launch must be considered a major blow to Norwegian defence authorities, which have invested more than 2 billion NOK (250 million EUR) in the project over a 12 year period. The new missile called the Naval Strike Missile is to be placed on the new Norwegian frigates as well as Missile Torpedo Boats. Norway has invested major sums in the new fleets, which will make the countrys navy one of the most powerful in Europe. The Spanish producer of the five new Norwegian frigates last Wednesday officially handed over the third vessel to Norwegian authorities. The KNM “Otto Sverdrup” is the third new frigate entering service in the Norwegian Navy. From before, the KNM Fridtjof Nansen and the KNM Roald Amundsen have been included in the fleet.
