Military relations getting better and better

While some analysts say they fear military tensions between the countries in the High North, Norwegian and Russian military men are cooperating better than ever. –Contacts between the Norwegian and Russian Armed Forces are getting more and more extensive, the Norwegian side confirm.

During a three-day meeting in Severomorsk outside Murmansk this month, top Russian and Norwegian military representatives discussed a number of issues, among them joint navy exercises and training. The meeting in the headquarters of the Northern Fleet were full of substance, Mil.ru reports. The meeting was held as part of preparations for an upcoming meeting between Head Commander of the Northern Fleet, Vice Admiral Maksimov and Norwegian Vice Admiral Jan Reksten, due in June this year. The Severomorsk meeting was the first of its kind and on a new contact level, which is believed to help both parts become better prepared for top-level meetings. -These meetings have an excellent potential for contact and development between two close neighbours in the North, a contact which already is in a good development phase, Head of the North Norwegian Military Command, Vice Admiral Trond Grytting, says.
