The Russian Ministry of Industry and Energy will by September this year present its general plan for the development of the Russian gas industry till year 2030, Newsru.com reports with reference to newspaper Novye Izvestia. According to the draft plan, obtained by the newspaper, the Russian gas industry will the next decades see a major shift in production geography. While the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug in Western Siberia today accounts for more than 90 percent of the Russian gas production, the Yamal Peninsula and the Barents Sea will already by 2020 produce half of the Russian gas. Todays Russian gas production totals about 550 billion cubic meters. By 2020, gas production is expected to increase to about 640 billion cubic meters, of which 170 billion will be produced in Yamal, 70 billion in the Barents Sea and another 25 billion cubic meter in the Ob and Tazov Bays. As noted by Newsru.com, the huge Bovanenkovskoe field in Yamal will be ready for production from 2011, while the Shtokman field in the Barents Sea is planned launched in 2013. From year 2015, the gas fields in the Ob Bay will be started developed. Gazprom has set aside a reported 670 billion and 850 billion RUB respectively for the fields Bovanenkovskoe and Shtokman in the period 2009-2011.
