Yefimov, who is wanted by Russian law enforcement authorities, has left the Republic Karelia for Estonia where he has applied for political asylum. As previously reported, the blogger is charged on allegation of “stirring hatred” against the Russian Orthodox Church after he in a blog post accused the Church of corruption and of nursing close relations with the government and the security services.
On his Live Journal blog, Yefimov confirms that he has applied for “temporary political asylum” in Estonia.
In Russia, Yefimov faces a 100.000 RUB fine and up to two years in jail. Prosecutors also demanded that Yefimov was hospitalized in a mental hospital. However, the blogger never showed up and instead left the country.
An international wanted notice has been issued on Yefimov.
