Intercontinental missiles with nuclear dummy warheads crossed the skies of the Barents Region and the Arctic in different directions on Wednesday.

The Northern fleet’s Delta-IV class submarine “Bryansk” launched her missile from submerged position in the waters north of the Kola Peninsula, a rocket that crossed the skies of the Arctic and hit the pre-defined target at the Kura Test Range on the Kamchatka Peninsula.

Murmansk-based TV21 has posted a video of the missile launch from the Barents Sea.

Another rocket crossed the skies the other way, launched from a Delta-III class submarine. The missile hit the target at the Chizha range on the Kanin Peninsula on the eastern shores of the Barents Sea.

Both launches were part of a surprise exercise to test Russia’s nuclear deterrent. The test was overseen by President Vladimir Putin, reports RIA Novosti

The test also involved strategic air force and land-based strategic missile forces. A Topol RS-12M intercontinental missile was launched from Plesetsk in Arkhangelsk region, a missile that also hit the target on the Kura range on Kamchatka.

Last October, a similar large-scale test drill was conducted; also that one involving several nuclear powered submarines, aircrafts and land based intercontinental missiles.
