Vladimir Zhirinovsky got huge attention in Finland in the 90ties after statements hinting that Russia should restore its pre-Soviet borders. Until the 1917 Russian revolution, Finland was a Grand Duchy within the Russian Empire.

Quoted by Helsingin Sannomat from a press-conference this week, Zhirinovsky has clearly changed his mind regarding a Russian take-over of Finland. – What do you Finns know how to do? You steal forest from us in Karelia and sell us furniture, Zhirinovsky said.

Vladimir Zhirinovsky is world-famous for both nationalistic and populist statements and he is well known for his boasts pertaining to other countries. In the last Duma election in 2007, the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) received 8% of the vote and by that got 40 seats in the State Duma. In the State Duma, Zhirinovsky holds the position as vice-chairman.

He’s party is again running for the election, to be hold on Sunday.
