Medvedev to visit Norway

Russia’s President Dmitri Medvedev will visit Norway in the spring, says speaker of the Murmansk regional Duma Yevgeny Nikora.

Location

At a meeting on Tuesday with Norway’s General Counsul in Murmansk, Jon Fredriksen, Yevgeny Nikora said President Medvedev will devote his visit to Norway to discuss economical cooperation and innovation, reports the Murmansk based web-portal B-port.

This will be Dmitri Medvedev’s first visit to Norway. Last official presidential visit to Norway was in November 2002, when Vladimir Putin visited Oslo.

So far, there is now official information about where in Norway the Russian President will go during his up-coming visit.

Jens Stoltenberg was the first Norwegian Prime Minister to visit the northern Russian city of Murmansk in June 2007. Stoltenberg entered Russia in the north from Kirkenes to Murmansk, before he went to Moscow and St. Petersburg.

• Norway’s Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik participated at the opening of the new Russian border crossing point to Norway at Borisoglebsk in January 2003.

• Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik participated at the 300-years anniversary of St. Petersburg on May 30th to June 1st 2003.

• Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik participated at the 60th anniversary of the victory of the Great Patriotic War in Moscow on May 9th 2005.

• Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov visited Norway on the 28th and 29th of March 2006.

• Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg visited Murmansk, Moscow and St. Petersburg on  the 7th to 10th of June 2007.

• Norwegian Prime Minister, Jens Stoltenberg, visited Moscow and had meetings with both Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and President Dmitri Medvedev on May 19th 2009.
