Finnish foreign trade continues downturn

Figures from Finnish customs authorities show that the country’s exports in August this year dropped almost 40 percent year-on-year.

According to the Finnish National Board of Customs, the total value of Finland’s exports in August was about 3.1 billion EUR, which is almost 40 percent less than in the same period last year. Imports also fell by a third to a value of just above 3.2 billion EUR, newspaper Helsingin Sanomat reports.

Exports to Germany in the period were only about two-thirds of the 2008 level. Figures for exports to Sweden and Russia fell by more than 30 percent.
