Japan shows interest in Belkomur

Japanese companies might be interested in investing in the projected Belkomur railway line between Western Siberia and the Barents Sea, experts from the Nomura Group believes.

The Japanese companies are interested in a new Euro-Asian connection, newspaper Rossiiskaya Gazeta reports. The new line is planned to become a transport shortcut for industrial goods in the region. The railway will stretch from Perm in Western Siberia to Arkhangelsk on the Barents Sea coast. Also Scandinavian, Arab and Chinese companies have shown interest in the proect, Rg.ru informs. A first consultation between stakeholders in the Belkomur project and representatives from Nomura has already been held. The 1300 km long line has an estimated cost of 70 billion RUB. The project also includes a major upgrade of the Arkhangelsk sea port.
