The further gasification of the Republic of Karelia was on the agenda when Governor Sergey Katanandov yesterday met with Gazprom’s Aleksey Miller.

The cooperation agreement between the parts expired in 2009, and Katanandov and Miller in their meeting discussed the prolongation of cooperation.

As part of the former agreement was the construction of 90 km of gas pipelines in the region. Gazprom invested 450 million RUB in the constructions, while the regional budget contributed with 270 million RUB, a press release from Gazprom reads.

The Republic of Karelia still remains one of the least gasificated regions in Russia with a total of 2,9 percent of consumption coming from gas. The average in Russia is 63,2 percent.
