Rosneft discussed shelf partnerships with BP and Total

Russia’s biggest oil company, the state-owned Rosneft, this week invited the BP and Total to discussions on a possible partnership on the Russian shelf.

The press service of Rosneft confirms that a meeting between company CEO Eduard Khudaynatov and top representatives of BP and Total took place on Monday this week and that cooperation on the shelf was on the agenda.

Present in the meeting was also company Board Chairman and Deputy Premier Igor Sechin.

Both Total’s CEO Christophe de Margerie and BP’s Robert Dudley was in the meeting which took place in Rosneft’s Moscow headquarters.

Currently, Rosneft and Gazprom have monopoly in projects on the Russian shelf. The company has licenses to a number of promising offshore fields, many of them in the Arctic. As recently reported, Rosneft also won a number of new licenses to the Barents, Kara and Pechora Seas.

According to RIA Novosti, Rosneft started talks with BP on cooperation on the shelf already in 2008. Now, the company’s new licenses make the talks more relevant, the news agency reports.
