Gazprom monopoly

As European demands on Russian gas drop, monopoly exporter Gazprom seeks to compensate the lower revenues with boosting prices on domestic sales. That however will have consequences for Russian industry, as well as for Russian households.

Over the next seven years, Russia and the United States will shrink both nations’ arsenals of strategic nuclear weapons to 1550 warheads. The deal will not bring along any reduction of nuclear warheads in the Barents Region.

The Murmansk Election Commission first announced that independent candidate Nedezhda Shelkovnikova had won 51,9 percent of the votes in Sunday’s mayoral elections in Pechenga rayon, the Russian municipality bordering Norway and Finland. Now, the commission says that Shelkovnikova only won 49,75 percent and that a second election round is necessary

The United Russia party in Novodvinsk, Arkhangelsk Oblast, has expelled city mayor Ivan Popov from the party following his conflicts with city officials and party colleagues.

The Norwegian Government Pension Fund, the largest equity investor in Europe, has invested into 64 Russian companies. The Norwegian part of the shares were worth more than 22 billion NOK (Euro 2,75 billion) in 2009.
