The latest ranking from newspaper Nezavisimaya Gazeta places Katanandov as the 100th most powerful politician in the country. None of the other governors in the region are on the list.
The list is headed by Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, followed by President Dmitry Medvedev, Finance Minister Aleksey Kudrin and Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin.
Governor of Sankt Petersburg, Valentina Matvienko, is ranked number 61 on the list. Sergey Katanandov has been regional leader in the Republic of Karelia since 2002.
