The Russian federal budget deficit in 2009 was 6,4 percent, which is considerably less than the previously estimated 8,3 percent. In 2010, the budget deficit will be between 3-4 percent, Finance Minister Aleksey Kudrin believes.
Talking at a government meeting yesterday, Minister Kudrin said the 2009 deficit got less than anticipated and that also results in 2010 will be better previous feared. It is the government’s budget cuts – measures which proved more efficient than anticipated – which helped stagger the deficit increase, newspaper Kommersant reports.
