Governors take counter-terrorist measures

Regional leaders all over Northwest Russia have heightened the state of security on their respective territories following the terrorist attacks in Moscow and the North Caucasus.

Arkhangelsk Governor Ilya Mikhalchuk in a press release yesterday said regional interior ministry personnel and FSB officials are taking new security measures in all public transport and places. He also calls on transport organizations and public institutions to inform the public about possible threats.

Addressing the population in Murmansk Oblast, Governor Dmitry Dmitriyenko called on locals to stay alert and report about suspicious objects.

Komi Governor Vyacheslav Gayzer in a meeting with his regional Anti-Terrorist Commission yesterday also highlighted the need for heightened security, but at the same time stressed that reactions must be measured and adequate. He warned against people who now seek to take the law in their own hands and start campaigns against people with Caucasian origin.
