Joint audit review of nuclear safety projects

The chairman of Russia’s Accounting Chamber Sergey Stepashin will together with Norway’s Auditor General Jørgen Kosmo sign a memorandum with conclusions and analysis of Norwegian sponsored nuclear safety projects in Northwest Russia.

Last time the Office of the Auditor General of Norway presented an audit review of the Norwegian Action plan for nuclear safety projects in Russia was in 2001. The report then concluded that many of the projects had varying goal achievements. The report said: “Especially weak goal achievements are within areas including radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel.”

Norway has spent some 1,5 billion NOK (EUR 190 million) on different nuclear safety related projects in Northwest Russia since 1995.

Sergey Stepashin and Jørgen Kosmo will sign the new memorandum in the Norwegian border town of Kirkenes on Tuesday.

The joint Norwegian – Russian audit was conducted in the period from 2008 to 2010.
