Nordic countries to sign joint security policy statement

The Nordic countries Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Iceland are preparing for the signing of a joint statement on security policy.

Location

The statement is aimed at strengthening cooperation and joint action in cases of peace-time catastrophes, as well as military threats, YLE reports.

The statement will be a follow-up step after last year’s report on Nordic Foreign Policy and Defence Policy Cooperation. The report touches on 13 fields of potential cooperation, and has the Arctic as a key focus.

The report was edited by former Norwegian foreign minister Thorvald Stoltenberg. It was commissioned by the five countries’ governments in June 2008. A group of ten experts from all the countries assisted Mr. Stoltenberg with the report.
