Lets meet at Vkontakte

A total of 52 percent of all Russian Internet users are doing social networking, a study shows.

According to the All-Russian Centre on Public Opinion Studies (VtsIOM), people in the Russian Far East, the Urals and in Siberia are the most frequent users of the social networks. There, between 64-67 percent of the Internet users are registered in social networks like Odnoklassniki, Vkontakte and Facebook. The lowest number is found in Northwest Russia (38%), the study concludes.

Of young people aged 18-24, a total of 67percent of the Internet users engage in social networking. In the big cities, 60 percent of the Internet user do the social networking.

Meanwhile, only seven percent of the Internet users report to write blogs. In the age group 18-24, the number is eleven percent, the study shows.

According to a report from the Russian Public Opinion Fund 31,9 percent of the Russian population in the last quarter of 2010 used the Internet on a daily basis.
