Russian government approved ENPI financing

The Russian government has formally approved the spending of 105 million EUR on cross-border project cooperation with the EU.

Location

The Russian participation in five ENPI programmes was formally approved in a government meeting last week. A number of documents regarding the financing of the programmes will now be handed over to the State Duma for ratification, a press release from the Ministry of Regional Development informs.

Speaking at the meeting, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said the ENPI programmes are good examples of an equal and mutually beneficial partnership, which will be of use for people on both sides of the border, facilitate human contacts, help establish new business connections and create new jobs.

–All together, they are a significant step on the road to building strategic relations with the European Union, he stressed.

The five agreements approved are the “Lituania-Poland-Russia” programme, the “Estonia-Latvia-Russia” programme, the “Southeast Finland-Russia” programme, the “Karelia” programme and the “Kolarctic” programme.

It is the Ministry of Regional Development which is top responsible for the ENPI projects on the Russian side. The projects will the four years be a backbone in cooperation between Russia and the European Union. Russia will spend 105 million EUR on the programmes, while the EU will contribute with 120 million EUR.
