Air Force expands near Finnish border

The Besovets airport is boosting military and civilian capacities.

The Russian Besovets airport near Petrozavodsk, Republic of Karelia, is made capable of handling all kind of military and transport aircrafts.

Location

The airport, which is managed by both the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Transport, will get a facelift by year’s end, the Defence press service informs. That will enable it to serve all kind of both military and transport aircrafts.

Part of the upgrade is the laying of a new landing field, as well as new taxiway strips. New electronic equipment and navigation and kommunication technology will be installed, mil.ru informs.

Also the passenger capacity of the airport is expanded with the construction of additional gates and platforms.

According to regional authorities in Karelia, the overall project investment cost amounts to $9,5 million.
