Plesetsk gets billions

Rocket launch at Plesetsk (mil.ru)

Large investment program to modernize Russia’s northern space centre.

Location

Five billion rubles (€121 million) is granted to develop and expand Plesetsk.

Reconstruction of the motorway, new barracks, modernization of the energy system, hospital and other healthcare facilities are all on the list of project that get funding in 2011, reports RIA Novosti.

Plesetsk is located in the Arkhangelsk region and has especially been used to launch military satellites the latest years.

The space centre is also used for test-launching of silo-based intercontinental missiles. A Topol RS-12M missile was tested from Plesetsk last Saturday, reports Xinhua news agency.
