Among the 54 persons convicted to corruption in Murmansk region this year are police officers, a municipality official, two members of local councils, 10 state and municipal employees, six doctors, four teachers and one head of a kindergarten, reports Murmansk Business News.
133 people have been prosecuted for other corruption offenses, of which 66 were involved in bribery.
According to Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index for 2010, Russia is sliding to the 154th place among the 178 countries listed. As previously reported by BarentsObserver, Russia took the 147th place in the 2009 Transparency International list.
