The rating, the third of its kind produced by the International Institute of Political Expertise and the Petersburg Politics Fund, indicates that Mr. Katanandov is one of the most unsuccessful Russian regional leaders. He is joint by another seven governors believed to lose their jobs in the near future, newspaper Vedomosti reports.

The researchers in the two rating companies are not the first however, who have said that the Karelian governor will lose his job. Over the last years, a number of political opponents and public figures have demanded his dismissal.

In 2005, the Liberal Democratic Party and its leader Vladimir Zhirinovskii demanded that Katanandov is dismissed because of alleged extensive abuse of his position and misuse of earmarked federal transfers.

Sergey Katanandov has been governor since 1998.
