The «Akademik Treshnikov» is currently undergoing testing in the Gulf of Finland.

Location

The vessel, built by the Admiralty Yard in Sankt Petersburg for the Federal Service on Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring (Rosgidromet), is likely to replace the «Akademik Fyodorov» as the flagman of Russian marine research vessels.

The ship will spend 11 days in the Gulf of Finland before it returns to the yard for a final overhaul, the yard informs. It is planned handed over to Rosgidromet in the course of August.

The «Akademik Treshnikov» will be able to operate in complex icy conditions and temperatures down to minus 40. It will have a crew of up to 160 people.

The ship is likely to operate mostly in the Antarktika, but will also be able to take on operations in the Arctic.
